IPL — Intense Pulsed Light — is a non-invasive, light-based technology that delivers targeted pulses of light to the skin. The same device addresses hair follicles, pigmentation, vascular redness, and acne-causing bacteria depending on how it's calibrated.
It's not a laser in the single-wavelength sense: IPL uses a broad spectrum of light filtered to match the treatment target, making it one of the most versatile clinical tools in a beauty clinic.
Light energy is absorbed by the target — melanin in hair follicles, haemoglobin in vascular lesions, or chromophores in pigmented spots — which converts it to heat. That heat disrupts the target tissue without damaging surrounding skin.
Results accumulate across a course of treatments. Hair removal typically needs 6–8 sessions. Skin treatments are designed as a series of 4–6, spaced a few weeks apart to let the skin respond and recover.
